A lot of words have been spilled on how visual artists react to the covid pandemic. Slightly ashamed, a whole lot of the more fortunate have experienced it as a blessing, as extra time in their studio's, to work without distraction, without the social pressure or mandatory chit chat.

Although we have heard this mantra for about a year now, Nel Aerts' 'Swallow Maelstrom Hut Heads' exhibition at Plus-One Gallery is the first show that we've seen that is an overwhelming proof of it. It is a metuculously crafted burst out of new work, that exploded out of her studio, dripping with "work joy". Nel changed the gallery space a little, to cover the walls top to bottom with a new chapter in her work: collages made with fabrics, dominated by her signature scratching, inpatient paint strokes, nervous drawings, and found details.
A joy! Check it out while it's allowed.
