i saw HAPPY GO LUCKY, a recent MIKE LEIGH film, he is responsible for one of the best films made in the last 30 years; NAKED! the main actress in this new film POPPY, was absolutely horrible! well not the actress but the fucking anoying shithead she had to play. i was actually gonne leave the movie theater, something i hardly/never do! though, the driving instructor was one of the best actors i saw in a very long while.. he basicly kept me in the theater! so, stay cos it's gettin better when u think "now it's enough, i wanne kill this woman".

the dad of young free celloïst GINO COOMANS, who plays in most probably the only younger free jazz unit in antwerp; SHELDON SIEGEL, plays on one of my all time favorite free tapes, maybe it's my all time fave in the genre as it's sort of a non free tape.. i'm talking about the WIM FANFARE tape, a amazing attempt of the werkgroep improvisatie muziek to play as a brassband! gino just sent me this GREAT VIDEO of a  broadcast on national tv (in 1978) about the free music festival in antwerp where his dad LEO COOMANS is in! incredible that this stuff was possible on national tv!

bummer!!! yesterday JMH BERCKMANS died at home of a lung disease. this incedible writer will be greatly missed. i don't wanne sound too dumb, but i have to say due to concentration camp problems i have dificulties reading longer then one page, one very clear exception though is a train ride from blankenberghe to antwerp, where i laughed out loud reading ROCK & ROLL MET FRIEDA VINDEVOGEL completely in one hour, probably because there was so much writing about other antwerp drinking psycho's in it that everyone here knows. it took another 5 years before i actually met JEAN MARIE, he played live on the square i use to live at in front of a terras filled with people who really weren't ready for jmh's aural vomit! who crawled over the floor screaming "call doctor gabrieeeeeeeellll". amazing show! REST IN PEACE JMH BERCKMANS.

on friday august first, a summerish 17 day long art festival is happening in KNESSELARE, on a farm at the Drongengoedweg. i will have a new piece in this groupshow. other artists in this show are STEPHAN SCHRAENEN and CARLA AROCHA, TOMMY SIMOENS, etc.. yesterday afternoon i went there to check the space out, the curator of the show wasnt there, but the owner of the tavern that acompanies the farm was kind enough to show us around. when i mumbled to tommy that i might wanne show the moeilijke voeten piece again, as it was only shown at scheldapen at the macakehouse exhibtion, and this farm was the perfect place to learn how to walk with these shoes, the farmtavern inhabitant said "no, not the moeilijke voeten piece please"... i was kind of shocked that she would even know what we were talking about and asked "what do u mean not the moeilijke voeten piece?", she said she was gonne be honest with me "i don't like that piece"... "i saw it on the internet", lucky for the tavern farmers i recorded an hour long of sounds the people from knesselare will relate to much better then to my moeilijke voeten and which they will hear for the next 17 days in a non stop loop..

yesterday the sweet italian mountain folks of the HUNDEBISS label and distribution (most probably the only underground distro in italy that sells strange tapes) visited antwerp for one day. they hooked me up big time with their OLYVETTY "im leeren" 7", the 7inch is limited to 333 copies and has this weird fold open cover art with a hand made pop out in it. i can especially dig the b side of the single, it has this strange slowed down 303 style tune in it. 

right now i'm listening to parts of the intense archive of the greatly missed GEORGE SMITS. he had a weekly radioshow on radio centraal called ZBOLK RADIO PICTURES, where he'de only play and remix his own music, a beautiful sound collaged mix of psychedelia, tapes, loops, acid folk and especially the sound of his giant long string/isimo instalations! thrue his widow marceline bertels i got acces to his photo and recording archive. which is incredible! a bunch of it though is not dated, and i keep hearing from a ton of people that he'de just give out his original radio tapes to people he knew. it's a big puzzle so far.. i'm gonne try to release a series of lp's of this great archive, most probably in random order. this afternoon i am visiting someone who has 4 more tapes. some years back lowlands released 2 cds of george. which are ok, though, too cleaned up! the great and more raw mixes on his radio tapes are more my cup of titties! more psych! more scary and more "off"! during the 60's GEORGE played mouth organ in ferre grignard's band, made silkscreens under the MAFPRINT moniker and made the 60's underground comic zine SPRUIT with ercola!

i just went to a 50/50 meeting, maybe that was a little akward as i never was at these meetings when they were still happening (late 80's till the beginning of the 90's), basicly the 50/50 meetings were an organisation of chris streetlink, who later formed (the now destroyed and greatly missed) factor 44 with hairy hairmans. by the end of this year the building factor 44 was housed in will be sold, this means that something needs to happen with the enormous archive of the inexistent and 50/50 days, the meeting today was set up to see who is intrested to work with it. there is a very nice presentation of a part of this archive on view at wolstraat 33! if u happen to be in antwerp,definatly go take a leek there (open until the end of this weekend)! a lot of old pictures of wout vercammen, stan peers, guy rombouts, dominic gregoire (dr dog) toni and carlos, christ de laet, etc.. and giant paper table cloth full of paint, garbage and sticky grease of these meetings! i think it would be a good idea a museum in antwerp would take over this archive. the hardons of ultra eczema will most probably check out the audio archive of these meetings for possible release.

this page didnt get updated cos for some reason my computer doesnt wanne do it.., some days ago i finally visited the great VIVIANE KLAGSBRUN, we were gonne trade drawings some years ago, but as usual that didnt happen, until this week, i had the same feeling as visiting brinkman, jung and chippendale for the first time, they had mountains of drawings laying around which sort of made me feel like i wasnt doing anything at all for the past 10 years. i was absolutely blown away by viviane's ton of beautiful drawings, and also by her stories about her days in the otto muehl communne during the 70's, she showed me great zines, photos and books of those days which were hilarious. pretty soon i am going to interview her about all this on our radioshow.

sunday is bummer day usually, though i am listening to dieter roth, chrome, a new burning star core stack (with amazing artwork by ROBERT BEATTY), and the first lp by ARA which changes bummer day into happy times day!

kapotte sveer! last night's marriage party for kati and the grens was great, AWESOME COLOR played another killer set there and bear masks and drunk dancers floated around like it was 1999!

the NOISE ART groupshow opened this weekend at KS ART in new york, which is across the road from the incredible NO FUN FEST, i cant express psychically how bummed i am that i'm missing this great event. anyway, the artshow is curated by Thurston Moore (that tall guy from the pixies), i have about 5 drawings in there. other artists include a bunch of my faves, such as; John Olson (who is playing this wednesday at stella lohaus gallery!!), Maya Miller,  Eline Dam, Noise Nomads, Bill Nace, Chris Forgues, Alivia Zivich, Chris Pottinger, Nate Young, Robert Beatty,  Dylan Nyoukis, nik rizili, Kim Gordon, Max Eisenberg, Mike Connelly and Heath Moerland!!
