I went to a cinema to see Bohemian Rhapsody the other day, a movie about Queen, directed by Bryan Singer. And although Rami Malek plays a fantastic Freddy, it is, in my always humble opinion, full of lenghty farts. The part at Live Aid is pretty incredibly spot on though. It made me re-watch the footage of Queen at Live Aid again, and that made me shiver and tear up like a 5 year old. I wish Freddy had made a sound poetry album.
On rotation the past few days:
Tyshawn Sorey : Pillars, 3xCD or 2xLP (Firehouse 12 Records)
(Fielding Hope recommended this through social media channels, and i'm absolutely hooked to this beauty now! These jammers seem to be playing music with glue. sweet smooth freedom!)
Takako Saito : Spontanious Music, 2xLP (Edition Telemark)
(Yet another pearl on the hot Telemark cake, a label that has so far not let me down yet. One can take the title of this Fluxus member's album quite serious. The kind of record that makes industrial music sound like playmobiel, not because it's so scary, not at all, more because this music is just around us already and it makes you notice it more in a way. Especially the everyday sounds do.)
And it is sad to hear Pete Shelley has passed away. Vocalist in one of my favorite Brittish punk/pop bands, The Buzzcocks. RIP Pete Shelley.
